Hipaa Policy

The law generally protects the relationship between a client and a therapist and information cannot be disclosed without written permission Except in the following circumstances:

  1. Suspected child abuse, dependent adult or elder abuse. The law requires us to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately. 
  2. If you threaten to hurt yourself or someone else, we will try to speak with you to ensure the safety of the other party. If you do not cooperate, we will take steps to ensure the safety of the other party without your permission. 
  3. If you are ordered to complete an evaluation/therapy by the courts, your employer, child protective services, or as it relates to your employment or other benefits.
  4. You present to our office as a danger to others and insist on driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs or have another condition (e.g. dementia) that would put your safety and that of others at risk. In those cases, we will try to work with you to ensure your safety. If you do not cooperate, we will take steps to ensure the safety of the other party without your permission including reporting your condition to the department of motor vehicles.
